Eagles soar into the next round of the cup

A beautiful sunny morning at The Heath began with a one-minute silence, respectfully observed by both teams. From the first whistle, the Eagles were full of energy and intent, after a lacklustre second half performance last week. The team dominated possession and territory in a first half that produced all seven goals. With Lyla anchoring the defence, Tabs handed her first start in midfield, and Freya leading the line on her own, Albury started strongly and never looked back.
Freya opened the scoring with a powerful low strike into the corner before Ella quickly doubled the lead with another precise finish inside the opening ten minutes. Tabs then took command in midfield and swept home from range for a deserved third goal. Cobham responded with determination, pouncing on a mistimed goal-kick and firing past Seren, but Albury reset instantly and mounted another wave of attacks.
But momentum was with the Eagles. From deep, Ruby stepped forward to score twice in quick succession with two superb long-range efforts — the second a particularly stunning first-time strike from the halfway line that dipped under the bar, before Ella struck again with a trademark burst through the defence and composed finish to make it 6–1 at the break.
At half-time, the coaches reshuffled positions and encouraged the girls to focus more on their passing and movement. The Eagles continued to dominate and create chances, with Freya and Ella repeatedly testing the Cobham defence, but the visiting goalkeeper was in outstanding form in the second half.
There were strong performances all over the pitch: Ria ran tirelessly, swapping positions between defence, midfield and wing, delivering some excellent crosses; Cassidy chased and tackled relentlessly, showing how she’s growing stronger and more confident on the ball each week; Maeve’s link play and passing back was calm and composed throughout; Emma worked tirelessly in midfield, combining strong tackles with precise passing; Seren was brave and assured in goal, making good judgments and throwing herself on loose balls; and Heidi was solid and composed at the back, breaking up play and delivering some beautiful long-range passes to start attacks. Lyla, starting at right back for the first time, had a very solid game showing strength in the tackle and accuracy with her long range passing.
Both teams played with great spirit and mutual respect. For Albury, it was a performance full of teamwork, discipline, and confidence — a superb cup display that showed just how far this group has come.
