Deep in enemy territory, the big game with Francombe Galaxy took place. With a full squad, full of the joys of Spring, we kicked off in the hazy January sunshine.
The opposition heavily tested us in the opening 7 minutes, but we rode our luck and Max was keeping the team in the game as they repeatedly broke through a normally resilient defence. The Hawks started to grow into the match with some great interplay, and it wasn't long before Thomas played a great through ball to William, who skilfully found the bottom corner.
The Hawks kept up the pressure from the restart, with Lucian and Kieran snapping into tackles, and Freddie pinging passes, and it was again Thomas, tidying up at the back, who fed George 'the assassin', who swiftly despatched goal number 2 in the bottom corner.
After the break, Galaxy pulled a goal back and the game opened up.
Max and Aaron took control of the midfield and it was fittingly Max, who intercepted superbly in midfield before drilling a low shot in the bottom corner. In the last quarter, tired legs were evident, and Galaxy pulled sone goals back to level the scores. A great game for the neutral, (although none of us were!) with some real attacking flair.
A well deserved Man of Match for Max for his 100% commitment. Onwards and upwards Hawks.
