This is the story of goals and saves, in a far away land called Horsell.
All the boys arrived looking fresh, which is a good start. With coach Abs in the hot seat again and a shake of the referees hand, we were underway. The players were put into unfamiliar roles.
A very energetic start by Horsell meant the Hawks had to ride their luck in the opening few minutes, but soon there was a goal for the Hawks. With some smart passing in midfield, Arthur slotted a beautiful through ball to Kieran, who despatched it tidily in the bottom corner.
Shortly after, with Max and Thomas harassing the Horsell defence, there was panic in the Horsell box, which resulted in an own goal. Horsell rallied, though, and if it were not for a flying save from Thomas, they would have had a goal back. As it was, we went into the break, maintaining a lead.
The next quarter started, were the last finished, with the Hawks on top and it wasn’t long before the quick feet of Lucian, found Aaron breaking through, who smashed it in the bottom corner.
Shortly afterwards, after a dramatic foul just outside the box, George stepped up to the freekick and rattled the post with a stunning curling effort. They say the sound was heard as far away as Pyrford.
Then more drama; Horsell were awarded a penalty! With Thomas protesting his innocence, it was left to the bouncing Arthur to keep the clean sheet. And lo and behold, he saved. A stunning save, low down to his right. Good work Arthur!
After all that excitement, we needed something to steady the nerves. With Freddie snapping into tackles on the wing, Aaron picked up the ball on the halfway line and fed it through to Arthur, who despatched it superbly.
With time running out, it was left to Lucian to pull off one last diving save to preserve the clean sheet.
So there it was- goals and 3 saves.
A fantastic team performance and MoM went to Lucian. Well done son.
