The Albury Hawks put in a performance full of heart, hard work and no‑nonsense football as they secured a deserved 2–1 victory over Onslow. It was one of those games where every boy left everything out on the pitch.
First Half
The Hawks came flying out of the blocks, setting the tempo early. In midfield, Keiron was putting himself about as usual, winning tackles and breaking up play, while Teddy was pulling the strings with his creativity and clever passing.
Out wide, George and Aaron were a constant thorn in the side of the Onslow defence, while Harry and Arthur pressed from the front like a pair of terriers, not giving the opposition a moment’s peace.
At the back, Will B, Will R, and Lucian were as solid as a rock, barely giving Onslow a sniff. Behind them, Woody had a composed first half in goal, sweeping up danger and keeping things calm.
The breakthrough came with a beautifully worked team goal: Teddy’s determination sparked the move, George delivered a peach of a cross, and Aaron finished with ice‑cool composure.
The Hawks went into halftime 1–0 up, fully deserving their lead.
Second Half
After the halftime oranges — fuel for champions — the Hawks came out with their tails up and looking like a team ready to take the game by the scruff of the neck.
A tactical switch saw William R don the gloves for the second half, while Woody moved to right‑back, where he immediately looked right at home, continuing his excellent all‑round display.
The pressure kept mounting. George was having a stormer up front, ably supported by Harry, whose movement and work rate were second to none. Arthur kept the press alive, ensuring Onslow never settled.
In midfield, Keiron continued to boss the centre of the park, while Teddy kept things ticking with clever touches and smart decisions.
The back line of Will B, Lucian, and Woody stayed switched on, snuffing out danger whenever Onslow tried to break.
The pressure finally told when Keiron drove into the box and was brought down — stonewall penalty. Up stepped George, who kept his head, sending the keeper the wrong way and tucking it into the bottom corner to make it 2–0.
A Nervy Finish
Football can be a funny old game, and Onslow pulled one back on the counter to set up a tense finale. But the Hawks showed real character — digging deep, rolling up their sleeves, and defending as a team.
William R stayed calm in goal, Will B, Lucian, and Woody made crucial interventions, and the midfield and forwards worked tirelessly to see the game out.
When the final whistle blew, it was a fully earned 2–1 win.
? A Massive Improvement
This was a big step forward — the boys looked organised, confident, and full of belief. A real team performance, with every player contributing.
? Man of the Match: Woody
For his outstanding all‑round display — first in goal, then superb at right‑back — Woody was head and shoulders above the rest. Keep up the good work, Woody.
? A Final Word of Thanks
A huge thank‑you to the coaches for their time, guidance, and endless encouragement. Their hard work behind the scenes keeps the boys improving every week and makes days like this possible.
COACHES' Additional comments:
We were delighted with what was an amazing team performance - the players were more confident in their passing and it showed in the game. We struggled to agree on a man-of-the-match and want to add special mentions to a number of the players:
William B excelled in defence and rarely puts a foots wrong. Midfield saw an all-battling display by Teddy - who was using the outside of the majestic right boot to spray the passes. Keiran in his measured display kept everything ticking over. Finally - a mention for Woody - helping the team in defence and then donning the goalkeeping jersey.
Overall, the team have a performance that was coming - working hard for each other and working as unit ! Well done to every one of them !
