After their Falcons teammates impressive performance beforehand Eagles were keen to follow suit in their first encounter of the season with Chiddingfold.
The Eagles welcomed back William after a few weeks out who started well with a few of his trademark runs keeping the ball under control and relieving the pressure on the defence. Jack began in goal and did well to stop the visitors from scoring at all in the first period and Alfred was incredibly unlucky not to get on the scoresheet with two long range efforts which tested the Chargers keeper. Ashton, playing in only his second game showed some very nice touches and Max was as ever a rock at the back, snuffing out any Chargers attack. The Eagles led at the end of the first period thanks to Leo’s effort followed by his well practised celebration!
In the second period Eagles introduced Digby who’s tenacity and determined runs were rewarded with a goal, either side of two strikes from Max who found time to score as well as stop certain goals at the back. This gave Eagles a 4-0 lead at the half but now facing an extra Charger! Despite the extra player Chargers couldn’t make it count and third period goals from Digby and William and a clean sheet from Max in goal gave Eagles a 6-0 lead going into the final period.
The Eagles were still facing the extra Charger but weren’t going to relax. Determined performances by Alexander, who was unlucky not to score, Christopher and Peter, plus two more goals from Leo to give him a hat trick saw Eagles convincing winners. There were some great performances particularly Max who seemed to cover every blade of grass, score goals and prevent them and Alfred who grew in confidence from keeping a clean sheet and had two long range efforts saved, very nearly scoring his first goal.
It was brilliant to see such a good team performance and such improvement in all the players from summer to now.
