Eagles win a thriller!

The Eagles were back on home soil again this week and welcomed the Milford Pumas Reds to the Heath. After a hard fought draw by the Falcons earlier this morning, the Eagles were keen to play well and impress the crowd who had stayed on to support them.
P1 - The home side got off to a bright start with Leo going on a skilful run and Max hitting the post twice in the same move, how it didn’t cross the line I don’t know. The two combined again with Max going on a run down the right flank before cutting it back for Leo to finish, 1-0. Digby began the game and was soon showing his usual determination and covering every area of the pitch, battling hard and regularly winning back possession. Alfred was unfortunate to have to pick the ball out of his net twice as the visitors fought back to end the opening period in front.
P2 - saw the introduction of Ashton and Christopher who are both showing increased confidence and a better understanding of their position. Both worked well to protect Tommy in goal who made several good saves and distributed the ball really well to his defenders. Digby, playing his natural game was rewarded with a goal to draw the scores level before the Pumas got their noses in front again.
P3 - Jack returned to the action and impressed with some determined runs down the left showing good skills to protect the ball from the opposition. Alfred also returned, this time in midfield and battled well to disrupt the Pumas. The scoreline seemed to remain level for ages before a flurry of activity followed in the goal area. Rui, making his debut for the Eagles impressed with his touches and bravery and was rewarded with a goal. Leo not happy with just one goal added a couple more for good measure to give the Eagles a small cushion of a lead. The Pumas were not going to give up though and were a constant danger on the break. The Eagles lead was preserved however by the efforts of Alexander in goal who made several amazing saves to stop the Pumas clawing their way back. One save saw the Milford striker through on goal with just the keeper to beat. Alexander was second favourite to win the ball but came off his line and showed great bravery to win the duel fairly and stop a certain goal.
P4 - The final period saw a concerted effort by all to protect the lead they had worked so hard to achieve. Ashton, Christopher and Digby continued to protect Alexander in goal and Tommy got his name on the scoresheet too. The boys can feel proud of their efforts today. They all put in 100% effort for each other and showed greater understanding of positioning.

Eagle of the Week - Alexander
