The full Eagles squad gathered at the Heath this morning for the final home fixture of the season. On a chilly but sunny morning we welcomed GPR Pterosaurs to the Heath fresh from their recent home defeat to the U7 Falcons and looking for revenge!
P1 - Albury began with a strong line-up, keen to get off to a good start, and the crowd didn’t have to wait long. Alexander, playing up front was rewarded with a goal within the first minute while many parents were still getting settled with their lattes and bacon baps from the cafe! Eagles were soon on the attack again and Alexander was making his presence felt in the Pterosaurs area and bagged his second goal in a matter of minutes! As the dust settled on a hectic opening Eagles took control of the game and poor Tommy in goal was a spectator! Jack and Alfred protected the goal superbly at the back with some crunching tackles and timely interventions, while Max and Leo bossed the middle of the park which culminated in a glorious cross field pass from Leo which was clinically put away by Max to send the Eagles in 3-0 at the break.
P2 - Tommy began the second period in midfield and was soon into the action, agonisingly close to scoring with a delightful flick after good work down the right from Digby. He too was keen to get on the scoresheet and was unlucky to see his long range shot come straight back off the post. Rui showed great teamwork by going in goal to begin the period before coming out onto the pitch to put the Pterosaurs under more pressure. Rui suffered a knock to the ankle but was soon back on the field. Ashton took over in goal during the second period having done really well in defence. He was protected in defence by Peter and Christopher who battled hard to ensure the Eagles kept their clean sheet in tact going into the break.
P3 - Alexander returned keen to score his first hat-trick and Alfred followed up his heroics in defence with a period in goal during which he was able to soak up the sunshine, have a sit down and run the length of the field to check on an injured Pterosaur! At the other end the Eagles were a constant threat on the Pterosaurs goal. One such period saw the Eagles pressure the visitors with about 6 consecutive corners which resulted in a thunderous corner from Jack which spun up hit the top of the bar and was headed over the line by Leo, who scored another before the end of the period.
P4 - Max showed great selflessness in being goalkeeper for the final period and showed great bravery in diving on the ball when his goal was threatened by a Pterosaur attack! Tommy was rewarded for his efforts with a well taken goal and Peter, Ashton and Christopher worked hard to combat any Pterosaur attacks on the Eagles goal.
Another great team performance with special mentions to Alexander for his two goals, and goalkeepers Tommy, Rui, Ashton, Alfred and Max who kept a clean sheet.
Eagle of the Week - Rui.
