The Lions again proved that they can step up in big matches when second placed Hart came to Shalford Park. The game was not without worrying moments but ultimately a hat trick from Harrison meant the Lions went home with all 3 points.
The Lions started faster, with Rommy (who was excellent all day) pouncing on the ball from the kick off. A bit of interaction with Ben down the right was blocked and the Lions switched play to the left. Arthur found some space and set Harrison free who coolly finished on 2 mins.
The next 10 mins was end to end stuff. A one two between Seb and Ianis created a great cross from Seb but no one could quite get on the end of it. Hart broke quickly and it was only thanks to quick work from Benji and Will that they only got a corner. A finger tip save from Aryan found its way to Carlos whose clearance gave Ianis a great chance. The shot went just wide but gave Hart something to think about.
Minutes later Ianis won a ball back in midfield and Ben’s long ball gave Harrison a chance one on one. Again the ball went wide but it seemed like another goal was coming.
Unfortunately it came at the wrong end when a goal kick went straight to the Hart striker who scored. 1-1 after 14 mins.
The Lions second goal came on 26 mins. Captain Ben won the ball in midfield and sent a great ball forward. Harrison had one to beat, rounded him on the outside and tucked away under the goalie.
One final chance before half time. Played out of defence by Marcus, one-two between Carlos and Seb and then a fantastic long ball from Seb needed some great defence from Hart to keep the ball out.
Half time 2-1 but felt like the Lions had left a few on the pitch.
A bit of deja vu at the start of the second half. Harrison found himself on goal and showed no nerves as he scored his hat trick.
The rest of the half was a bit more stressful! Hart had loads of attacking all and started throwing their weight around a bit. They were denied a second goal when Arthur put his body in the way. He was pushed and shoved but held firm and only gave away a throw.
Aiden, Sammy and Aaron introduced some fresh legs. Aiden had a couple of great plays down the right and Aaron was causing problems with his size up front. Sammy had a few good one-twos down the left side as the Lions tried to put the game to bed. But no one could quite get the final touch.
Closest was a long shot from Marcus that was fumbled by the goalie. Harrison could not quite get up high enough to finish the goal.
Hart got a goal back from a great strike after a clearer corner. That resulted in a tense last 10 mins but the Lions held on to take the win and take second place in the league.
Just 2 games left to cement a second placed finish.
