Albury Hawks delivered a commanding performance in the sunshine, producing six goals, a clean sheet, and a display full of energy, creativity and teamwork.
A Bright and Confident Start
From the first whistle, the Hawks looked sharp. They moved the ball quickly, pressed with intent, and immediately forced Liss onto the back foot. The early passages of play were dominated by Albury’s composure and organisation, with the midfield linking well and the defence stepping forward confidently.
Lucian found himself against a tricky winger and had to be sharp. Hugo in an unusual right wing role, took invitations to gallop forward - driving the team on. He was alert enough to look up and find teammates, but also prepared to take a shot when he could.
The opening goal arrived through Aaron, who finished with calm assurance after good build up play. A fiery strike into the roof of the net. It set the tone for the afternoon: composed, controlled, and clinical.
A slick dribble by Guy - dancing between defenders to earn a shooting change which was parried by the goalie only for Arthur reacted quickest inside the box, pouncing on a loose ball to double the lead. His sharpness and anticipation gave the Hawks a comfortable cushion and further rattled the Liss back line.
Teddy and Guy were beginning to boss the midfield, and with George and Leo, causing mayhem on the flanks, surely it was only a matter of time before Hawks scored again.
The Hawks pressure continued, and Theo added a third before half time, striking cleanly to put Albury firmly in command. This was an outrageous strike from near the half-way line. His movement and confidence in the final third were already causing problems, and the Hawks went into the break with a deserved 3–0 advantage.
Second Half: Total Control and Relentless Pressure
The Hawks emerged for the second half with even greater intensity. Leo came close to a spectacular goal, unleashing a fierce strike that cannoned off the crossbar with real venom. Moments later, George forced an excellent save from the Liss keeper, who did well to keep the scoreline respectable at that stage.
Then came one of the moments of the match: Teddy’s 35 yard free kick, struck with power and dip, drawing a superb fingertip save. It was a sign of the Hawks’ growing dominance — they were, quite simply, all over Liss like a bad Burton’s suit.
The fourth goal arrived when Teddy picked up the ball 25 yards out, took aim, and unleashed an unstoppable long range strike. It flew into the net with such conviction that the keeper barely had time to react.
Goal number five came from a corner, again delivered by Teddy. His swinging cross caused instant chaos in the box, leading to a goal mouth scramble. Amid the bodies and ricochets, Theo stayed alert and tucked the ball home, showing great composure to claim his second of the match.
The sixth and final goal followed after George was brought down in the area. The penalty was handed to Theo, who stepped up confidently and dispatched it with aplomb to complete a well earned hat trick. His finishing, movement and work rate throughout the game were outstanding. A lovely gesture by George to give the ball to Theo. Teamwork at its best.
Defensive Excellence and Midfield Drive
While the goals grabbed the headlines, the clean sheet was equally impressive. The defenders were superb throughout:
Lucian and Will showed excellent composure on the ball, playing out calmly under pressure and making smart decisions.
Guy defended with strength and intelligence, reading the game well and breaking up attacks.
The entire back line contributed to a disciplined, organised performance that gave Liss very few opportunities. Credit to Hayden who was quick off his line when he needed to be - this was coupled with excellent distribution which help start the attacks.
In midfield, the Hawks were just as impressive. Keiran brought fantastic energy, covering ground tirelessly and snapping into challenges. His drive helped maintain Albury’s control throughout the match. Hugo delivered a true box to box performance, supporting both defence and attack with relentless effort. His presence and work rate were crucial in keeping the Hawks on the front foot.
Man of the Match
Hugo earned MOTM for his energy, perseverance and all action display. He was everywhere the team needed him, contributing in every phase of play and setting the standard for intensity and commitment.
A Complete Team Performance
