Kew Park Rangers Girls U13 Reds 1 – 2 Albury Eagles U13 Girls

Nick Ridley15 Oct - 14:41

A tight finish! Written by Emma and Ella

On a crisp Sunday morning, Albury Eagles U13 Girls made the journey to Richmond to face Kew Park Rangers (KPR) Girls U13 Reds.
From kick-off at 10:00am, the Rangers mounted a series of attacks with their speedy forward line and the back three of Ruby, Tabs and Heidi were quickly put under pressure but were more than equal to this and all the early attacks came to nothing. From then on the Eagles got into the game and the first half was evenly matched with plenty of attacking play. With Albury electing to play Isabel, Ella, Bonnie and Ria in midfield, the Eagles started to gain the upper hand. As half time approached with the Eagles players chasing everything across a huge pitch it was time for Cassidy, Emma and Molly to come on as fresh legs were needed . One flowing move down the right saw Ria cross the ball to the left and Emma took a first time shot that was destined to go in but for a quite outstanding save by the Rangers keeper. It continued with back and forth attacks until half-time, when the whistle blew with the score tied at 0 – 0.
In the second half, the two teams remained evenly matched, fighting for victory, but Albury looked the more threatening in the opposition penalty area. 15 minutes into the second half saw Ella break through on goal and score a stunning goal, which put Albury in the lead 1 – 0. From then on, the Eagles looked comfortably in control and were able to break up all the Rangers attacks. However with 6 minutes left the ball bounced awkwardly in the Albury penalty area and there was an unfortunate handball meaning that the Rangers were awarded a penalty. The Rangers centre forward struck it fiercely but Seren was more than equal to it and pulled off a fantastic save. Unluckily, for the Eagles, the Rangers forward was first to the rebound and scored. This now tied the score at 1 – 1.
But the Eagles heads didn’t drop and with 2 minutes left on the clock, strong play by Lyla saw the ball move to Molly who slotted it into the back of the net putting the Eagles into the lead 2 – 1. The Eagles were able to see out the remaining minutes to record a wonderful and well -deserved victory
The game was very evenly matched with both teams playing amazingly.
